Overview

CoolMaster 9000H is a versatile seamless control adapter connecting Hitachi VRF Air Conditioning systems with any RS232 or USB featured devices like Home PCs, Embedded PCs or Home Automation Controllers.
Connecting such Controllers through common RS232 or USB interfaces with the CoolMaster 9000H will provide end-users with full control of all Hitachi's VRF indoor units enabling them with access to HVAC's various functionalities including diagnostic.
Home Automation Integrators and HVAC installers when utilizing CoolMaster 9000H will not have to worry anymore about the complexity involved in understanding and working with Hitachi's internal Communication line and gateways including their unique physical layer.
Now, with the CoolMaster 9000H, Hitachi's integrators will be provided only with a simple, well documented open ASCII protocol over RS232 or USB to seamlessly integrate with any Home Automation applications.

Seamless easy integration with Home Automation Systems and PC's applications

Interfacing Home Automation Controllers with CoolMaster 9000H is a simple and straight forward process requiring only common ASCII commands over RS232 communication line.

Same RS232 Interface for all VRV/VRF HVAC Systems

All CoolMaster models provide the same RS232 interface for all VRV/VRF HVAC Systems. So for instance, a home automation application, where a Hitachi's VRF system is connected via CoolMaster 9000H, will function exactly the same way for Toshiba VRF, Daikin VRV, Sanyo VRF etc', when using CoolMaster models: 3000T 1000D, 2000S, respectively. No special interface adaptation will be required to migrate from one CoolMaster type to another.

Full Control over Indoor Units Operation

On/Off control, Cool, Heat, Fan, Dry mode selection, Set Temperature Control, Fan Speed Control, Swing Control (for wall mounted and cassette indoor units), Filter Reset Sign, Group Operations (All On, All Off).

Outdoor and Indoor Units Monitoring

Failure Alarms, Set point temperature, Operation status (on/off) Operation mode (cool/heat/fan/dry), Fan speed (high/low), Filter sign, Swing

System Diagnostics (Optional for advanced users)

Outdoor Units internal parameters: Condensing, Evaporation, Ambient Temperatures, EV Opening, System Power Consumption (current), Inverter Revolutions and others Indoor Units internal parameters: Return air, Gas and Liquid Temperatures, EV Opening.

Field Upgradable

New Firmware can be uploaded via RS232 port. No need to open unit to change its functionality.

Below is an example of information that can be reflected on CoolMaster LCD.

In this example VRV system has 3 indoor units with external addresses 1.01, 1.02 and 1.03. You can gather following information looking at the CoolMaster LCD.

The strange string U03 G03 A3 U4 means that there are 3 indoor units - U03 and 3 indoor units with preset external address - G03. Failure codes A3 and U4 were detected in system.
CoolMaster Integration with HAI Omni/Lumina

Introduction

HAI Omni and Lumina family controllers support two-way integration with CoolMaster RS-232 interface adapters for VRV and VRF air conditioning systems. The HAI controller can change the setpoints, operating modes, and monitor changes in these items and current room temperatures.

Each indoor unit appears as a standard HAI thermostat and may be controlled as though it was a standard HAI thermostat.

Installation

The HAI controller connects to the CoolMaster adapter using an HAI Model 36A05-4 Serial Connectivity Adapter Kit. Set the Serial Function for the serial port on the HAI controller to “CoolMaster”.

Alternately, the HAI 10A17-1 Serial Expander may be used to connect the CoolMaster adapter. In this case, a straight-through DB-9 male-to-female cable must be used between the HAI controller and the CoolMaster adapter. Set the Expander Type for the desired HAI expander address to “CoolMaster”.

Each CoolMaster adapter supports multiple indoor units. The HAI controller supports multiple CoolMaster adapters connected through unique serial ports on the HAI controller. Adapter 1 is connected to the lowest numbered serial port set to “CoolMaster”; adapter 2 is connected to the next higher serial port set to “CoolMaster”; and so on.

Each thermostat in the HAI controller can be assigned to an indoor unit on one of the CoolMaster adapters. The specific indoor unit is identified by the adapter number, system number, and indoor unit address. The system number and indoor unit addresses are determined from the CoolMaster adapter and the AC system settings. Associate a thermostat in the HAI controller with a CoolMaster indoor unit through the HAI PC Access software. First, set the thermostat type for the thermostat to “Auto Heat/Cool”, “Heat/Cool”, “Heat Only”, or “Cool Only” as appropriate. Next, click on “Protocol Address” and in the resulting dialog box set the protocol to “CoolMaster” and enter the adapter number, system number, and indoor unit address.

Operation

Setting the system mode of the HAI thermostat to “heat”, “cool”, or “auto” will set the operation mode of the indoor unit accordingly and turn the indoor unit on. Setting the system mode of the HAI thermostat to “off” will turn the indoor unit off.

Setting the HAI thermostat fan mode to “auto” will set the indoor unit fan speed to low. Setting the fan mode to “on” will set the indoor unit fan speed to high. If the indoor unit is off, setting the fan mode on the HAI thermostat will set the fan speed and set the indoor unit operation mode to “fan”.

It is not possible to set the indoor unit operation mode to “dry” or to set the fan speed to anything other than “low” or “high”. The HAI thermostat system mode will show “auto” if the indoor unit operation mode is “auto”, “fan”, or “dry”. The HAI thermostat fan mode will show “auto” if the indoor unit fan speed is “low”, and it will show “on” for any other fan speed setting.

The CoolMaster adapter utilizes a single setpoint for heating and cooling. Changing either the heat or cool setpoint of the HAI thermostat will control this single setpoint.

HAI Controller Compatibility

CoolMaster interface adapters are supported by HAI Omni IIe, OmniPro II, Lumina and Lumina Pro systems. The systems must be utilizing controller firmware 3.8 or later.
Getting Trace off for the offline AC System Analysis
1. Connect CoolMaster to your PC via RS232 port
2. Extract attached d3dump.zip, it will create D3dump folder with following content:

4. Double click BAT file (suggested by CoolAutomation support) to run it.
5. Specify RS232 port number on the prompt
6. Let the program to run. To terminate program press Ctrl-C
7. Trace will be stored in log file like this one:

What to do with a log?

Log should be sent to CoolAutomation staff for analyzing.
